BACKGROUND

Background

Guilford County Emergency Services has received an award from the NC Office of EMS in the amount of $20,000 to fund local EMS systems to prevent fatal and non-fatal overdose, by increasing access to post reversal follow up care and building local capacity to respond to the opioid epidemic in North Carolina.

Guilford County is unifying to reduce mortality/health consequences from opioid use. The Guilford County Division of Public Health (GCDPH), together with Guilford County Emergency Services (GCES), have participated in the creation of innovative efforts to address the opioid problem. The GCSTOP (Guilford County Solution To the Opioid Problem) program was created by Guilford County, in concert with UNCG (where GCSTOP is housed) to provide rapid response services (i.e., post reversal follow up) to individuals who overdose or are at the risk of overdose. The funding period for this award is present-08/31/2019 and funds will be used to fund the GCSTOP program.
