BACKGROUND
Background
Guilford County Department of Health & Human Services - Social Services (DHHS-DSS) has received a 2017 Casey Grant allocation of $40,000 for qualified expenditures through June 30, 2107. These funds must be appropriated by the Board of Commissioners. No county match is required.
These are the primary goals of the Casey funding:
1. Facilitate reunification of children with biological families and reduce reentries to foster care through timely services that educate, build and promote birth family skills and capacities for safe and permanent outcomes.
2. Support long-term systemic goals that enable the Social Services Division of the Department of Health and Human Services to provide services that are responsive, adaptive, family centered and efficient in safely increasing exits to permanency. Emphasize expedited planning by supporting concurrent permanency options and targeted exit programs. Provide resources, training and implementation practices including case reviews to directly promote permanency options for long staying youth.
3. Support practices and policies of the department that target stabilization of the child welfare system workforce.
These goals are coordinated with activities at the Parent Visitation Center at Dundas Circle.
