BACKGROUND

Background

The current Firearms Training Simulator (FATS) system was purchased in the late 1980's and is currently inoperative. A new FATS system would allow Law Enforcement to update citizens with concealed handgun permits on relevant legislative changes. Additionally, the simulator will be used by citizens for marksmanship training, and will instruct citizens and deputies in decision-making skills to identify situations where lethal force is or is not required.

The FATS system allows the deputy to train with their assigned weapon by re-configuring the firing pen assembly to align with a design that can be utilized in simulation. For citizen training, Law Enforcement would provide a simulation weapon to concealed carry handgun (CCH) holders. Law Enforcement believes simulated training offered through FATS will eliminate the potential for injury encountered in live fire on the gun range.

This item will be paid for with Federal Forfeiture funds, so no additional County funding is required. Current balance of Federal Forfeture funds is $791,485.
