BACKGROUND
Background
Public Health has been awarded $28,255 by Ready for School, Ready for Life to support Guilford County’s Community-Based Doula Program. This initiative aims to reduce infant mortality disparities through equitable access to doula services.
The awarded funds will directly support program operations including:
· $26,380 for contractual expenses to maintain certified Doula services,
· $75 for essential program supplies, and
· $1,800 to fund community convening's that support outreach, collaboration, and education.
· Funding will provide services for up to 48 clients annually, focusing on individuals who experience inequitable access to maternal health resources.
The Community-Based Doula Program is one component of the collective action strategic plan to reduce infant mortality disparities in Guilford County by 50% by 2026. It complements a range of evidence-based initiatives under the Reducing Infant Mortality in Communities framework. The County partners with Doulas Of North America - or Doulas Training International-certified doulas to provide prenatal, birthing, and postpartum support.
This program aligns with national and local public health standards for maternal and child health equity and has been integrated into Guilford County’s broader systems-change efforts. Funding from Ready for School, Ready for Life reflects continued support for community-rooted, evidence-based interventions.
