PROCLAMATION
Proclamation
WHEREAS, through the leadership of Robert J. Brown, a High Point native who served as Special Assistant to President Richard Nixon from 1969 to 1973, and others, Executive Order 11458 was signed in 1969, establishing the Office of Minority Business Enterprise; and
WHEREAS, since 1983, the President of the United States has proclaimed the observance of National Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of minority business enterprises and to honor those corporations and financial institutions supporting minority business development; and
WHEREAS, states and municipalities around the country celebrate National MED Week; and
WHEREAS, the mission of MED Week in Guilford County is to recognize and celebrate the contributions of minority and women-owned businesses to the economic vibrancy of our community, and to promote their continued growth and success; and
WHEREAS, Guilford County recognizes the value of all of our business owners and, over the last several years, has worked to promote its minority and women-owned businesses by creating opportunities, partnerships, and initiatives that foster economic inclusion and opportunities to thrive.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Guilford County Board of Commissioners does hereby proclaim the week of October 20, 2024, as "GUILFORD COUNTY MED WEEK" and encourages Guilford County citizens to participate in the recognition luncheon and educational workshops that will commemorate the achievements of minority entrepreneurs and affirm our community's commitment to the principle of equality.
