BACKGROUND
Background
Over the last five (5) weeks, DHHS-Social Services Division (DSS) has maintained a processing timeliness rate between 98-99% for FNS applications. Guilford County's weekly performance has consistently been above the state's average, as well as, the average rate for urban counties.
However, as the number of recipients of Food & Nutrition Services (FNS) benefits throughout the state continues to increase, Guilford County’s recertification numbers continue to rise, as well.
Unprocessed cases:
For the month of May 2016, 308 cases or 15% went overdue. We did not meet the state’s expectations of 10% or less of overdue cases for month ending May 31, 2016.
Training:
During this time, there were fifteen (15) new employees in training. These individuals completed their training on 6/10/2016 and will transition to the floor with mentoring and limited caseloads.
Turnover:
Turnover has begun to be tracked as of June 2016. For the month of June there were:
Two (2) promotions (One (1) hired to a different department within the agency)
One (1) voluntary resignation
Two (2) involuntary separations
These turnovers have created vacant caseloads. This, coupled with the volume of cases due, has increased the need for mandatory overtime for staff.
