RESOLUTION
Resolution
WHEREAS, Ben L. Smith High School, established in 1963 in central Guilford County, serves a richly diverse student body representing forty-four (44) different countries and is home to a growing campus that includes tennis courts, a swimming pool, a football stadium, auditorium, track and field area, gymnasiums, computer labs, and the Manufacturing and Engineering Academy, with extension courses offered through the Weaver Education Center; and

WHEREAS, the Smith High School Varsity Basketball Team completed the 2024-2025 season with a record-breaking 29-3 finish-the best in school history-capped off by a 12-game winning streak that culminated in the program’s first-ever North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 3A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, under the exemplary leadership of Coach Derrick Partee, the Golden Eagles exemplified discipline, resilience, and teamwork, earning recognition for their performance both on and off the court; and

WHEREAS, standout senior TayShawn Mann, a four-year varsity player, concluded his high school career with an outstanding 106-19 record, a 3.5 GPA, and All-Conference honors; and

WHEREAS, senior Kenny Miller Jr. was selected to the All-Conference Team, named Conference Defensive Player of the Year, 1st Team All-District, scored over 1,000 career points, earned Most Outstanding Player honors in both the Western Regional Finals and State Championship, and has received multiple scholarship offers for college basketball; and

WHEREAS, junior Jyi Dawkins was named to the All-Conference Team, 1st Team All-District, 3rd Team All-State, and earned the title of Most Valuable Player of the State Championship game, already surpassing 1,500 career points with another season yet to play; and

WHEREAS, the team collectively achieved a GPA above 3.0...
