BACKGROUND

Background

The County Vehicle Replacement Plan implemented by Board action on June 25, 2026, included provisions of $1,665,000 to support the FY27 Emergency Services Vehicle Replacement Plan.  This plan included the purchase of three (3) chassis as replacement chassis for current Emergency Services ambulance units with over 300,000 miles, one (1) ES Mechanic’s support vehicle and one (1) chassis for remount of County Rescue apparatus.

A thorough review of the current fleet and condition of vehicles resulted in the department requesting to purchase two (2) new complete ambulance units and remounting one (1) of the existing transport ambulance (remount expense and new ambulance boxes will be separately listed for BOC approval at a future date). The timeline for these new ambulance boxes and remounts will be greater than one (1) year, and all existing units will have well in excess of 325,000 miles by the time these units are placed in service.

Current fleet review highlighted the critical need for replacement of one complete mechanic’s vehicle, used for roadside assistance and towing of ES assets.  This vehicle will arrive complete with a utility box to house critical tools and supplies for addressing department needs.  Similarly, the replacement of the current Rescue Unit was identified as greatest departmental need and was included in the FY27 Emergency Services Vehicle Replacement Plan.  The chassis purchase in combination with remount cost to be separately listed for BOC approval at a future date, replaces the existing unit which currently has approximately 350,000 miles.  The timeline for recei...
