BACKGROUND
Background
The overall objective of the Governor's Highway Safety DWI Taskforce grant is to provide programs which address traffic related issues such as unrestrained drivers and passengers, especially children, speeding, motorists driving while impaired, and community education on these issues. Grant funding will assist with salaries and benefits for all supporting taskforce officers, kits used to test blood for impairing substances, general supplies, training and travel costs for taskforce members. The training and travel expenses are for both in-state and out-of-state costs. The grant funds will be used to pay for six (6) positions, which are: one (1) Sergeant, one (1) Master Corporal, one (1) DWI Educator and three (3) Enforcement Deputies. The total cost of the program is $631,854 annually with Guilford County providing $473,890 (75%) and State/Federal funding providing $157,964 (25%). The $473,890 in County match funds was appropriated in the Fiscal Year 2025 budget.
