BACKGROUND
background
The challenges facing the Fire Service in Guilford County continue to be dominated by the decline of volunteerism. This decline has led to increased funding needs for the departments to supplement with paid personnel, while property values in the County remain relatively stagnant. The Fire Service Master Plan is designed to serve several objectives: updating the 2011 study completed by Emergency Services Consulting International (ESCI), identifying new challenges facing the fire service, and determining funding alternatives for service provision.
An extensive RFQ process was conducted with the involvement of Fire Chiefs and County staff, including: the Deputy County Manager, Emergency Services Director, Emergency Management Director, Budget Analyst, Purchasing staff, and Deputy Fire Marshal. Under bid event 502, the contract was awarded to Fitch and Associates, LLC in the amount $69,950 to complete a Fire Service Master Plan for the County. Funds for the study are included in the FY 2016 budget.
