RESOLUTION
Resolution
WHEREAS, the youth of Guilford County are our most precious resource and all children deserve a safe, loving and nurturing place to call home; and
WHEREAS, for our children who have lost their birth families, adoption can provide a stable home life, parental love and security; and
WHEREAS, caring adults and committed families can make all the difference in the lives of our youth; and
WHEREAS, Guilford County recognizes the numerous individuals, communities, and public and private organizations working to increase public awareness of the unique needs of our children and youth in foster care thorough their efforts to recruit permanent, loving families; and
WHEREAS, in 2024, Guilford County has had 37 youth adopted from foster care, an increase from 31 adoptions in 2023, with an additional 21 adoptions currently pending final decree; and
WHEREAS, Adoption Awareness Month is an opportunity to recognize these families who open their hearts and homes to provide children with a sense of connection, security and ties to their culture, birth families and communities. Additionally, this month recognizes child welfare professionals and advocates who are working to ensure the safety, permanence, and well-being of these children and to spread awareness on behalf of the children awaiting adoption.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Guilford County Board of Commissioners does hereby recognize November 2024 as “Adoption Awareness Month” and November 23, 2024 as “National Adoption Day” and encourages citizen observance through participation in educational and volunteer opportunities during this month and throughout the year.
