BACKGROUND

Background

The Duke Energy Foundation accepted grant applications to award $700,000 in total funding to help North Carolina communities increase resilience against major weather events and other natural disasters. Guilford County is being awarded $25,000 to increase readiness of the Guilford County Emergency Operations Center (EOC), safety messaging for field employees, and enhance preparedness programs overall. The funds received by the County will be used to purchase communications and data equipment for internet redundancy in the EOC and for field responses. This includes satellite and 5G internet capabilities and hybrid meeting technology expansion. In addition, upgrades to the existing software the County uses for mass notifications to ensure safety awareness, and a common operating picture will be purchased. To benefit the community directly, additional funds will be used to purchase preparedness materials for presentations and community events.
