BACKGROUND
Background
The Adopt-A-Mom program provides access to healthcare for vulnerable populations, as well as health education, counseling, and resources on topics related to the reduction of infant mortality and promotion of healthy families. For 33 years, the Adopt-A-Mom program has partnered with obstetric providers in Guilford County to provide prenatal care at a reduced cost for individuals who do not qualify for Medicaid and are otherwise uninsured. Grant funding from the Guilford County Partnership for Children’s Smart Start program and from Every Baby Guilford nonprofit organization provides this vital program for approximately 260 individuals annually. A Medical Interpreter serves with the program to eliminate language barriers. Both the Medical Interpreter and the Adopt-A-Mom Patient Coordinator also serve as patient navigators for assisting clients served in navigating community resource support.

Spending Plan
Spending Plan - Enroll up to 87 uninsured birthing people in quality prenatal care for a reduced cost of $500 for each patient for a total of $43,500. Guilford County Department of Public Health partners with: Cone Health Family Practice, Cone Health Center for Women’s Healthcare sites at Med Center, Femina, and Stoney Creek, Dr. Henry Dorn and Greensboro and High Point Public Health Maternity Clinics to provide antepartum care. $44,165 will be used to support a portion of a Medical Interpreter’s salary and fringe who attends prenatal care visits with those Spanish speaking participants in need of an interpreter.
