RESOLUTION
Resolution
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001 nearly 3,000 men, women and children lost their lives during one of the worst acts of terrorism in US history; and
WHEREAS, in its aftermath, the families and loved ones of those lost felt, and continue to feel, the lasting impact of this tragedy; and
WHEREAS, our military, law enforcement officers, firefighters, first responders and other emergency personnel displayed true heroism and courage as they responded to the attacks and aided victims; and
WHEREAS, this tragedy will always serve as a reminder of the strength, resilience and compassion our citizens possess in the face of devastating loss; and
WHEREAS, Congress designated September 11 of each year as “Patriot’s Day” and an annually recognized “National Day of Service and Remembrance”; and
WHEREAS, Guilford County pays tribute to the lives of those lost with service and charity towards others to preserve democracy and ensure the safety of our community, state and nation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Guilford County Board of Commissioners that it hereby proclaims September 11, 2025 as PATRIOT’S DAY and a NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE AND REMEMBRANCE and encourages Guilford County citizens to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46AM on this date in honor of the heroic service and actions of the first responders and countless others who bravely risked their lives and made the ultimate sacrifice during rescue efforts. The Board offers its deepest and most sincere condolences to the families, friends and loved ones of the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and encourages residents to participate in acts of community service and appropriate ceremonies and activities, including remembrance services, in commemoration of lives lost and those who risked a...
