BACKGROUND
Background
Guilford County voters have approved a total of $2.0 billion in school bond referendums to address school capital needs identified through a comprehensive facilities master plan jointly developed by the Guilford County Board of Education and Guilford County Board of Commissioners. Due to current and projected declining enrollment, the Katherine G. Johnson project has been paused, and transfer of a portion of its remaining approved ordinance funds to the Northwood Elementary project is recommended by district staff. This reallocation will provide sufficient resources to begin the design phase services and procure early-release work at Northwood Elementary.
On December 9, 2025, the Guilford County Schools Board of Education (BOE) approved realigning $7,500,000 in funds from Katherine G. Johnson K-8 School to Northwood Elementary. The revised project ordinance for Katherine G. Johnson with the noted reduction is $51,836,545. The revised project ordinance for Northwood Elementary with the noted increase is $12,259,348.
