BACKGROUND

background

Family Service of the Piedmont, Inc. (FSP) empowers individuals and families to restore hope, achieve stability, and thrive through quality support services, advocacy and education. All programming is based on meeting FSP's vision of building safe and healthy families. Programs include Family Counseling Services, Substance Abuse Services, Family Support Services, Consumer Credit Counseling Services, Victim Services and the Housing Support Team. Healthy Start is one of the programs administered by Family Service of the Piedmont. The Healthy Start program provides culturally appropriate education and support for families experiencing abuse and neglect risk factors, in which the mother is pregnant or has a child 19 months of age or younger. Using an evidenced-based home visitation mentoring model (Nurturing Parenting), home visitors help to reduce parental stress; develop and enhance parenting skills; improve child health and development; increase access to services; and prevent child abuse and neglect by providing education and support. Family Service of the Piedmont expects to serve 200+ families and provide over 300 referrals to other community providers during FY 2017.
