BACKGROUND

Background

The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office relies on specialized equipment to carry out its law enforcement duties. As public safety needs continue to evolve, so must the tools used to deter crime, protect the community, and support successful prosecutions.

The Sheriff’s Office is seeking to appropriate $75,000 from the Unauthorized Substance Tax Fund. The Sheriff’s Office intends to use the funds to replace an aging DWI Task Force supervisor truck. Vehicle replacement funding over the last several years has been prioritized to address pursuit rated vehicles, Command Center, and SERT vehicles. A truck is required due to the need to pull trailers associated with DWI checkpoints and the DWI Educator trailer.  The current balance of Unauthorized Substance Use Tax is $705,506 and if this item is approved the remaining balance will be $630,506.

Capital Chevrolet (NC State Contract 2510A)

The replacement truck is a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Police Pursuit Vehicle will be purchased from Capital Chevrolet using State Contract for a total cost of the vehicle with law enforcement upfits, before tax and registration of $71,213.
