Background
2023 Governor’s Crime Commission Guilford County Family Justice Civil/Legal Project
The Sheriff’s Office is requesting to apply for a grant through the Governor’s Crime Commission (GCC) in the amount of $135,751 with a County match of $44,251 for a total proposed project of $177,002. The proposed project would cover salaries and fringe benefits for three (3) existing Deputy Sheriff positions designated for the Family Justice Center (FJC). The required match will be met by utilizing a portion of salary and benefits for the Unit Supervisor assigned to the project through existing County funds.
Within the streamlined service delivery model and collaborative framework of the FJC, these dedicated officers of the GCSO’s Family Services Unit will continue to work in conjunction with stakeholders to target violent crimes against women. The team helps to promote safety, save lives, and foster healthy and violence free families and communities. By combining expertise and efforts in service to a shared mission, the Family Services Unit joins professionals across fields who are working together to save lives in Guilford County. The program's goal is to reduce the number of family-related homicides in Guilford County.
All projects are subject and available to all of Guilford County, and residents that need help through the FJC will be able to partake in these efforts. Over the first six (6) years of the FJC being open, 54,000 people were served and the demand continuously rises.
The application due date is January 31, 2023. If awarded, the grant would start October 1, 2023.
