RESOLUTION
Resolution
WHEREAS, William McKinley Spencer Jr. was born on August 27, 1953, in High Point, North Carolina, to the union of William Spencer and Marion Jean Spencer, and was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and friend; and
WHEREAS, he was a proud graduate of T. Wingate Andrews High School (Class of 1971) and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where he proudly celebrated AGGIE PRIDE; and
WHEREAS, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, following in the footsteps of his father, an original Montford Point Marine, and served honorably during the Vietnam War, retiring as a disabled veteran with the rank of Sergeant; and
WHEREAS, he continued his dedication to public service with a distinguished 34-year career at the United States Postal Service, where he held numerous positions in the American Postal Workers Union and served with integrity and commitment; and
WHEREAS, he was a faithful and devoted member of Memorial United Methodist Church of High Point, contributing his time and talents as a member of the men’s choir, usher board, executive council, trustee board, and as President of the United Methodist Men; and
WHEREAS, he was an engaged and passionate community leader, co-founding Brothers Organized to Save Others (BOTSO), and serving as a Life Member of the Montford Point Marines Association, a Service Officer with the Disabled American Veterans Association, a member of the American Legion, and an active participant on various boards and commissions; and
WHEREAS, he was recognized for his outstanding service with numerous honors, including the City of High Point’s Pillars of Fame Award and the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor, presented by President Barack Obama in honor of his father’s legacy; and
