BACKGROUND
Background
Today’s school nurses are increasingly key to the health and well-being of the school-aged student. School nurses are providing services to more students with complex health conditions as they are integrated into mainstream education settings. Students with disabilities or chronic diseases, like asthma and heart disease, require a highly trained health professional at school, so they can attend class and focus on learning. Along with providing health services, research shows that school nurses also provide a positive return on investment by providing more health assessments and preventive care, and consequently increasing the productivity of teachers, administrators, and parents.
