BACKGROUND
Background
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (“JAG”) program is administered through the United States Department of Justice -- Bureau of Justice Assistance (“USDOJ-BJA”). The grant may be used for criminal justice purposes to enhance public safety and Guilford County regularly applies for such grants. The 2022 JAG grant provided funds over a four year period. The award period runs from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2025. The total award of $297,844 will be reallocated by the City of Greensboro and the City of High Point providing 20% of their allotment to the County. This is calculated as the original award of $19,057 to the County plus the 20% disparity of $55,757 from other two (2) agencies for a total project budget of $74,814. The Sheriff's Office will use these funds to purchase two (2) fully marked patrol vehicles and two (2) in car systems. The City of Greensboro is the lead applicant for the project.

Approve receipt of the FY23 Byrne Justice Assistance Grant in the amount of $74,814, adopt the grant project ordinance for FY23 Byrne Justice Assistance Grant in the amount of $74,814, with $74,814 in federal/state funds, and approve interlocal agreements with the City of Greensboro and City of High Point.
