BACKGROUND

Background

Voluntary Agricultural Districts (VAD) and Enhanced Voluntary Agricultural Districts (EVAD) were developed by the NC Department of Agriculture to encourage the preservation and protection of farmland from non-farm development.

During its March 20, 2023 meeting, the Guilford County Agricultural Advisory Board approved the following applications:

1.                     VAD Application #2023-04, being 16.38 acres and comprised of two (2) Tax Parcels (#226081 @ 11.88 acres, #234344 @ 4.5 acres) all owned by Eric and Cristy Minnis of Burlington, NC.

2.                     VAD Application #2023-05, being 20.12 acres and comprised of two (2) Tax Parcels (#217137 @ 10.11 acres, #124468 @ 10.01 acres) all owned by Sam and Tomasita Jacubowitz of Whitsett, NC.

To date, approval of these applications brings the total number of VAD and EVAD parcels to 440, totaling 19,186.38 acres enrolled.  Of these totals, 397 parcels comprising 17,420.70 acres are enrolled in VAD, and 43 parcels comprising 1765.68 acres are enrolled in the EVAD. A copy of the NC Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services’ VAD Program Brochure is attached for reference.
