BACKGROUND

Background

Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services - Public Health Division successfully competed for and received Funding from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) Epidemiology/Communicable Disease Branch for participation in the Threat of Antibiotic - Resistant Gonorrhea: Rapid Detection and Response Capacity Project.  Guilford County was selected as one of nine sites nationally to receive this funding. Other awardees include: Washington (Seattle /King County), Indiana (Marion County), California (San Francisco), Hawaii (Honolulu), Wisconsin (Milwaukee), New York (New York City), Georgia (Fulton County) and Colorado (Denver County).  The funds will allow Public Health to explore mechanisms to increase local lab capacity by piloting new methods of gonorrhea resistance testing and developing novel strategies for rapid response to antimicrobial-resistant gonorrhea.  Funds will also be used for lab equipment, supplies and contract services, and staff time.
