BACKGROUND
Background
Professional hockey is coming back to the Greensboro Coliseum, which requires some remodeling and purchase of equipment. The Board of the Greensboro/Guilford County Tourism Development Authority (TDA) approved the use of $1,500,000 City Capital for the project at their October 8, 2024 meeting. The breakdown of expenditures is as follows:
$800,000 expenditure for the hockey system - new aluminum hockey dasher boards/frames with gates, polyethylene board facing and dasher caps and toe rail, a steel ice dam, backer panels, gap closures, acrylic hockey glass and posts, ice pro deck to cover, safety netting, team benches and penalty boxes, goals, safety netting system, spare glass and storage carts that meet or exceed National Hockey League standards;
$100,000 expenditure for the office build-out is for restrooms to support office space in the GACVB building, 2nd floor which the City owns and the GACVB is a 1st floor tenant;
$300,000 expenditure for seating risers sized at 36" depth on the east and west side of the arena that fit between the dashers and wall;
$300,000 expenditure for purchase of one new Zamboni and conversion of one old Zamboni to liquid propane power and upgrades.
By law, the approval of such expenditures shall be a joint decision by the Greensboro City Council, the County Commissioners and the Greensboro/Guilford County Tourism Development Authority.
