PROCLAMATION
Proclamation
WHEREAS, community corrections is an essential part of the justice system; and

WHEREAS, community corrections professionals uphold the law with dignity, while recognizing the right of the public to be safe-guarded from criminal activity; and

WHEREAS, we celebrate over 100,000 community corrections professionals around the country who work hard to keep our communities safe; and

WHEREAS, community corrections professionals are responsible for supervising adult and juvenile offenders in the community and have expertise to provide services and referrals for offenders; and

WHEREAS, community corrections professionals work in partnership with community agencies and groups to promote prevention, intervention and advocacy services, support, and protection for victims; and

WHEREAS, community corrections professionals advocate community and restorative justice and are a true force for positive change in their communities; and

WHEREAS, the Guilford County Court Services staff who perform the pre-trial services for the county coordinated 6,733 total first appearances, which comprised 3,328 felony cases and 3,405 misdemeanor cases for last fiscal year; and

WHEREAS, the Guilford County Court Services staff interviewed a total of 4,650 defendants, and researched a total of 7,186 defendants for its District Court Report which helped prevent Failures to Appear and the movement of the jail population; and

WHEREAS, the Guilford County Court Services staff coordinated and tracked a total of 130 Domestic Violence electronic monitoring orders, and had a total of 38 Pretrial Monitoring clients for last fiscal year; and

WHEREAS, the Guilford County Court Services staff case management saved 6,593 current in-jail days and that computes to saving the County $659,300; and
