PROCLAMATION

National Recovery Month Proclamation
WHEREAS, daily, citizens throughout Guilford County prove that recovery from substance use and mental health disorders is possible, and join the thousands of vital, active, and contributing members in our communities; and
WHEREAS, individuals in recovery demonstrate the power to transform themselves through evidence-based health and well-being initiatives that aim to prevent drug use, increase opportunities for early intervention and integrated treatment in health care, and support recovery; and
WHEREAS, it is essential we recognize the dedicated professionals, support groups, family members, and friends whose skill and empathy guide these individuals through the treatment and recovery process, and whose strength and perseverance help dispel myths and stigmas surrounding addictions and mental health disorders; and
WHEREAS, to assist people in achieving and sustaining long-term recovery, Guilford County partnered with Cone Health and our former LME/MCO, Trillium Health Resources, to open the Guilford County Behavioral Health Centers for adults and adolescents aged 4-17 experiencing mental health crises; and
WHEREAS, Guilford County has a long-standing history of holistic recovery programming, from decades of Recovery Court services for justice-involved individuals to forward-looking initiatives such as the Women and Children’s Residential Recovery Center and the Lee’s Chapel Residential Treatment Facility, offering comprehensive treatment, case management, transition planning, medication management and wrap-around support to meet recovery needs at every level; and
WHEREAS, Guilford County will participate in Unshame NC, a new statewide campaign to spread awareness of substance use disorder, and to educate about medications for opioid use disorder as a treatment option; and
