RESOLUTION
Resolution
WHEREAS, for more than twenty (20) years, the Meals on Wheels network has dedicated the month of March to strengthening its impact and rallying communities in support of its mission; and
WHEREAS, the annual March for Meals celebration commemorates the historic day of March 22, 1972, when President Richard Nixon signed into law a measure amending the Older Americans Act of 1965 to establish a national nutrition program for seniors sixty (60) years and older; and
WHEREAS, since 2002, Meals on Wheels programs across the country have utilized the month of March to increase awareness, garner support, and recruit volunteers to meet the rising demand for their services; and
WHEREAS, Meals on Wheels continues to play a crucial role in addressing food insecurity and malnutrition, combating social isolation, enabling independence, and improving the health and well-being of seniors; and
WHEREAS, March for Meals is a grassroots movement that includes fundraising activities, volunteer drives, community outreach, and engagement with public officials, business leaders, and media representatives to further its mission; and
WHEREAS, Community Champions Week, observed March 17-21, 2025, provides a unique opportunity for elected officials, local celebrities, and community leaders to deliver meals, advocate for seniors, and raise awareness for the importance of Meals on Wheels; and
WHEREAS, it is more important than ever to recognize and support the power and significance of Meals on Wheels amid ongoing challenges such as the lingering pandemic and economic hardships.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Guilford County Board of Commissioners do hereby declare the month of March as Meals on Wheels Month and encourage all residents to recognize the vital services provided by Meals on Wheels pro...
