BACKGROUND
Background
The attached agreements provide funding for library services within Guilford County. The County does not provide library services directly, so funds are distributed to the cities of Greensboro (the state-recognized county library system for Guilford County), High Point (a state-recognized municipal library) and the Town of Gibsonville (a state-recognized municipal library) to provide these services. Support is also provided to the community library of Jamestown.
The agreements are effective July 1, 2026 and are subject to final approval and any nonmaterial revisions made by the County Attorney and County Manager. The agreements shall extend for one (1) year the previous five (5) year contracts in place with these partners, unless terminated pursuant to the terms therein. The County will provide FY 2026-27 funding to each of the municipalities totaling $2,441,031. The details of the allocation are as follows:
Greensboro: $1,714,454
High Point: $615,577
Gibsonville: $55,500
Jamestown: $55,500
These funds are for the 2026-2027 Fiscal Year and commensurate funding has been approved in the adopted budget. The Greensboro City Council approved on August 3rd, the High Point City Council approved on September 21st, the Jamestown Town Council approved on July 21, and the Gibsonville Board of Aldermen approved on July 20.
