BACKGROUND
Background
The Sheriff's Department requests a sole source exception to purchase rapid DNA testing equipment from IntegenX. The RapidHIT system is the only commercially available rapid DNA system able to generate DNA profiles from up to eight (8) samples at once (7 + 1 control) and uses FBI-approved chemistry to generate expanded core CODIS marker sets. The system has more than 100 DNA profiles uploaded to the CODIS database by a DNA databasing lab, and has been featured in numerous peer-reviewed forensic publications. RapidHIT technology has been presented and accepted in US courts to obtain convictions, and will aid the Sheriff's Department in the accurate and efficient identification of crime suspects for swift apprehension and conviction, to ensure the safety of Guilford County citizens.

Requested Action
Approve sole source purchase of the RapidHIT DNA Testing System from IntegenX (5720 Stoneridge Drive, Ste. 300, Pleasanton, CA) using current budget funds in the amount of $230,625; which includes $200,000 for the purchase of the RapidHIT System and $30,625 twelve (12) months of maintenance and support. Direct staff to take such actions necessary to secure the purchase of the equipment and enter into any necessary agreements.
