BACKGROUND
Background
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program is administered through the Bureau of Justice Assistance. This grant was a joint application between the city of High Point and Guilford County and may be used for various criminal justice purposes to enhance public safety. The 2019 award allocation for the Guilford County Sheriff's Office was $136,976.16, which was originally appropriated at the April 15, 2021 Board of County Commissioners meeting. However, the full amount of the grant ($250,102) was not originally appropriated, nor was the $136,976 budgeted for the Sheriff's Office FY 2021-22 budget.
The Guilford County Sheriff's Office is the lead grant applicant and therefore must appropriate the full grant amount of $250,102, with the Guilford County Sheriff's Office receiving $136,976 and High Point Police Department receiving $113,126. We are requesting to appropriate the full grant amount of $250,102 to allow for 1) use of the Sheriff's Office portion of the funds during this fiscal year and 2) disbursement of High Point Police Department's portion of the funding.
