BACKGROUND
Background
The High Point ABC Board annually awards various non-profit and local government organizations with grant funds. These grant funds are generated by revenue obtained from the sale of alcohol. Per the established guidelines, this ABC Board must provide these funds for alcohol-related law enforcement, education, and rehabilitation purposes. The Sheriff's Office has been awarded $6,500.00 towards the DWI Task Force (DWITF), to be used in conjunction with the educator officer portion of the task force. The DWITF has one deputy, who is designated as the educator officer. This position is a requirement in order to receive grant funds from the State of North Carolina. The DWITF is only funded by the state at a twenty-five percent (25%) level for salaries. The funds from this grant will assist the task force in fulfilling a portion of its mission, which is educating the public against the dangers of impaired driving and alcohol abuse. The only stipulations of the grant are as follows:

1.) Funds cannot be used for any salaries
2.) Funds must be used for activities in the High Point area
3.) Fund usage must be related to alcohol education and/or treatment

The High Point ABC Board grant does not require any matching county dollars. Also, it does not obligate the Sheriff's Office or the county to create a program that must be maintained in the future. The funds will merely supplement the available budget for the DWITF. The task force will use these funds to purchase additional education tools geared towards the prevention of impaired driving and underage consumption of alcohol.
