Resolution
WHEREAS, Sergeant Philip Dale Nix faithfully served the Greensboro Police Department and the City of Greensboro for nearly 23 years with honor and distinction; and
WHEREAS, Sgt. Nix dedicated the last six years of his career to lead the Family Victim Unit at the Guilford County Family Justice Center, where his tireless commitment to protecting the vulnerable and holding offenders accountable left an indelible mark on the community; and
WHEREAS, Sgt. Nix was a nationally recognized trainer in high-risk cases of abuse and strangulation, extending his impact and leadership beyond Greensboro and earning the respect and admiration of law enforcement professionals across the nation; and
WHEREAS, on December 30, 2023, while off duty, Sgt. Nix witnessed a crime in progress and, embodying the very best of law enforcement, selflessly intervened to protect his community, making the ultimate sacrifice when he was fatally wounded in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, Sgt. Nix’s legacy as a consummate professional, a devoted public servant, and a beloved member of the Greensboro community will forever be remembered; and
WHEREAS, his dedication to service and his unwavering commitment to justice reflect the highest ideals of law enforcement and serve as an enduring example for current and future generations; and
WHEREAS, Sgt. Nix came from a family with a long legacy of public service, further deepening the roots of his commitment to serving and protecting others; and
WHEREAS, Sgt. Nix’s role as a loving husband, father, son, and family man enriched his life and everyone who knew him, leaving a profound impact on his family, friends, and colleagues.
