RESOLUTION
Resolution
WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was founded on January 13, 1913, by twenty-two young ladies at Howard University in Washington, DC; and
WHEREAS, these founders envisioned an organization committed to sisterhood, scholarship, service and social action; and
WHEREAS, recognizing the need to bring these same principles to the High Point, North Carolina community, the Alpha Omega Sigma Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was chartered on December 3, 1949; and
WHEREAS, the charter members included Sorors Ethel P. Wilson, Alice P. McLeod, Lillian S. Merritt, Emaree G. Parks, E.G. Gill, E.G. Cobb, D.M. Parrish, Pearl P. Burford, L.L. Parr, Margaret S. Garrett, T.D. Guy, Janie K. Williams, Daisy P. Withers and F.P. Rowe; and
WHEREAS, as the Alpha Omega Sigma Chapter, now known as the High Point Alumnae Chapter, celebrates its 75th Anniversary, it remains committed to the five-point programmatic goals of the Sorority: economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement. Whether leading the fights for civil and voting rights in the 1950’s and 60’s, to leading food and vaccination drives during the COVID-19 pandemic, the chapter has remained at the forefront of public service and stewardship throughout the city of High Point, Guilford County and the Triad region for decades; and
WHEREAS, the High Point Alumnae Chapter endorses and participates in all the national programs of the Sorority, and locally offers youth initiatives through its Delta Academy and Delta GEMS programs, which provide team building, educational support and professional guidance for young ladies aged 11-18; and
WHEREAS, this community is thankful to the sisters...
