BACKGROUND
Background
Over the last five (5) weeks, DHHS-Social Services Division (DSS) has maintained a processing timeliness rate of 97-98% for Food & Nutrition Services (FNS) applications. We are required to maintain a timeliness rate of 95% for FNS recertifications. Guilford County's weekly performance consistently remains above the state's average, as well as, above the average rate for urban counties.
Unprocessed cases:
According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), there is a requirement of 95% timeliness rate for recertifications. For the month ending September 30, 2016, 420 cases or 17% went overdue. We did not meet the USDA’s expectations of 5% or less of overdue cases for month ending September 30, 2016.
Training:
During the month of September, there were (4) eligibility caseworkers in training. These eligibility caseworkers will be transitioning to the floor soon, with mentoring and limited caseloads.
Turnover:
As we are now tracking turnover specifically for this department. The turnover for the month of September are:
One (1) voluntary resignation, one (1) involuntary resignation.
These turnovers have created vacant caseloads. This, coupled with the volume of cases due, has increased the need for mandatory overtime for staff.
