BACKGROUND
Background
The first five (5) years of life are critical for young children and early childhood education plays an important role in our community. The Guilford County Partnership for Children and other organizations are coordinating events acknowledging April as the "Month of the Young Child" and the week of April 6-12 as the "Week of the Young Child". The recognition is part of the national movement by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) to bring awareness and attention to these important issues.

RESOLUTION
Resolution
WHEREAS, the Guilford County Partnership for Children, along with other local organizations and in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), are celebrating April as the “Month of the Young Child” and April 6-12, 2024 as the “Week of the Young Child”; and
WHEREAS, the first years of a child’s life are the period of the most rapid brain development and lay the foundation for all future learning; and children’s cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and language and literacy development are built through positive interactions with adults, peers and their environment; and

WHEREAS, high-quality, accessible early care and education programs support children’s development, allow parents to work, and keep local economies moving; and
WHEREAS, Guilford County’s essential early care and education professionals have sacrificed and persevered to serve children and families served during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic; but are still in need of our collaborative support as we battle its impacts together, as a community; and
