HONORING THE LIFE OF WILLIAM “BILL” A. HORNEY, JR. AND HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE GUILFORD COUNTY COMMUNITY

 

    WHEREAS, William “Bill” A. Horney, Jr., is an engaged humanitarian, philanthropist and civic leader whose passion and vision for a greater community has enriched the lives of local citizens; and

 

    WHEREAS, Mr. Horney, a graduate of High Point High School and a World War II veteran, began his career as a commercial artist for Mirro Products, a company he later owned and grew into a multimillion-dollar business; and

 

    WHEREAS, Mr. Horney selflessly utilized his business acumen and altruistic spirit to develop several successful organizations aimed at strengthening the local community, including: High Point Community Foundation; Communities in Schools of High Point; and was instrumental in the fundraising campaign to build High Point Regional Hospital; and

 

    WHEREAS, throughout his life, Mr. Horney has devoted his talents and resources to preserving and promoting the community through philanthropy and his involvement in numerous civic and service organizations, such as: Family Service of High Point, High Point Economic Development Corporation, High Point Chamber of Commerce, The Qubein Foundation and the High Point Historical Society; and has received the following honors in recognition of his extraordinary accomplishments: High Point Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Citizen of the Year (1996); High Point Community Foundation Philanthropist of the Year (2001); and Family Service of the Piedmont Julia B. Nile For the Love of Family Award (2008); and

 

    WHEREAS, Mr. Horney’s commitment to community service is only surpassed by his love and devotion to family: wife, Daphne Horney, his three children; Leigh, David and Jeff Horney, his four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, to whom he continues to instill his values of benevolence, pragmatism, diligence and leadership.

                     

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Guilford County Board of Commissioners that it hereby expresses its appreciation and admiration for the accomplishments of William “Bill” A. Horney, Jr., and his contributions to the Guilford County community, and extends its sincerest congratulations in celebration of his 100th birthday.
