RESOLUTION

Resolution

WHEREAS, Reverend Carl Vierling has demonstrated visionary leadership and an unwavering commitment to addressing food insecurity in the Greater High Point area, drawing upon his experience in ministry, corporate leadership, and community organizing; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Vierling’s early efforts included launching an innovative food pantry serving vulnerable populations, and his diverse background in both business and ministry has uniquely equipped him to lead systemic changes in food access and community health, with a masters of Personnel and Employee Relations from the University of South Carolina and a masters in Christian Ministry from Carolina Graduate School of Divinity; and

WHEREAS, in response to a 2014 series of articles on hunger, Rev. Vierling helped bring together concerned citizens and leaders, resulting in the creation of the Greater High Point Food Alliance (GHPFA) and the establishment of actionable goals to address food insecurity; and

WHEREAS, under Rev. Vierling’s leadership, GHPFA has spearheaded impactful programs including the Food Finder app, Community Resource Guide, and the Food Security Fund, and has invested nearly $300,000 in local, sustainable food initiatives; and

WHEREAS, the GHPFA has built capacity for dozens of local food providers, supported families during the COVID-19 pandemic, and trained community leaders through its Growing Towards Leadership Program; and

WHEREAS, GHPFA has actively advocated for equitable food access, contributed to statewide policy development, helped Guilford County Schools maintain universal meal access, and played a critical role in High Point being recognized as an All-America City; and

WHEREAS, through tireless collaboration and community empowerment, the GHPFA has helped improve local food security metrics and reduce food hardship rates significantly over the last decade.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Guilford County Board of Commissioners honor and commend Reverend Carl Vierling and the Greater High Point Food Alliance for their visionary leadership, steadfast service, and transformative impact in the fight against hunger and the creation of a more just and sustainable food system for the Greater High Point community.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we congratulate Reverend Vierling on his well-deserved retirement and extend our best wishes for his continued success, happiness, and fulfillment in all his future endeavors.
