RESOLUTION
Resolution
WHEREAS, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has been a leading civil rights organization in the United States since its founding in 1909, advocating for the political, educational, social, and economic equality of all citizens; and
WHEREAS, the North Carolina NAACP has been instrumental in the fight against racial discrimination, voter suppression, and inequality within our state, providing leadership and advocacy for disenfranchised and marginalized communities; and
WHEREAS, the 81st Annual State Convention of the North Carolina NAACP, themed "Engage, Empower, Vote!" will be held to encourage active civic participation, empower communities through education and advocacy, and promote the fundamental right to vote as a cornerstone of our democracy; and
WHEREAS, the theme "Engage, Empower, Vote!" reflects the critical importance of engaging citizens in the democratic process, empowering them with knowledge and resources, and ensuring that every eligible voter has the opportunity to exercise their right to vote freely and fairly; and
WHEREAS, this convention provides an opportunity for attendees to collaborate, share best practices, and develop strategies to address issues of inequality, discrimination, and voter suppression in North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, the Guilford County Board of Commissioners recognize the significant contributions of the North Carolina NAACP in promoting social justice and civil rights and supports the organization's efforts to engage and empower voters in our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Guilford County Board of Commissioners formally expresses its support for the 81st Annual State Convention of the North Carolina NAACP held from September 26-28, 2024 and its theme "Engage, Empower, Vote!"
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Guilford County Board of Commissioners encourage all members of Guilford County to participate in the convention's activities, engage in civic dialogue, and commit to exercising their right to vote in all upcoming elections.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be presented to the North Carolina NAACP as an expression of our county's commitment to supporting their mission and the success of their 81st Annual State Convention.
