BACKGROUND
Background
Bethany Medical Center, PA/Peters Development, LLC was awarded (award letter attached)a Bldg. Reuse Grant (#2023-021-3201-2587) from the NC Dept. of Commerce in the amount of $300k to create 30 new full-time jobs by renovating a 4,912 sq. ft. space at the Company’s location at 108 W. Main St., Jamestown, NC. The Board of Commissioners approved this grant agreement on Jan. 5, 2023 and approved a subsequent NC Dept. of Commerce revision on September 21, 2023 (baseline jobs increased from 452 to 479). Per the attached e-mail correspondence from Dean Ruth, Bethany Medical Center, PA Chief Operating Officer, Bethany Medical Center, PA/Peters Development, LLC is requesting a one-year extension to the grant end date from October 20, 2024 to October 20, 2025 to allow more time for new hires.
Renovations have been completed, space currently is being used to provide medical services, and as of August 5, 2024, sixteen (16) of the thirty (30) full-time jobs are reported as being hired. Also attached to that e-mail is correspondence from the NC Department of Commerce indicating that a one-year extension is permissible by request from the sponsoring local unit of government. The NC Department of Commerce indicates that it can consider a 12-month extension which would provide Bethany Medical Center, PA an additional six (6) months to create additional new jobs and then six (6) months to hold all of those jobs (baseline and new job commitment).
Guilford County Legal Department has verified that there are no revisions necessary to the previously-approved Supplemental Agreement as a result of this extension, if approved. The Supplemental Agreement indicates that no grant dollars will be disbursed by Guilford County until review and verification by NC Department of Commerce once final grant documents and request for grant payment is submitted.
Upon action by this Board authorizing the request for a one-year extension, NC Department of Commerce will consider the request and if approved, a contract amendment will be forthcoming to extend the grant end date from October 20, 2024 to October 20, 2025.
