RESOLUTION

Resolution

WHEREAS, the United Way has a longstanding tradition of strengthening communities throughout Guilford County, beginning with the establishment of the Greensboro Community Chest and the High Point Community Chest in the 1920's and 1930's, bringing together citizens, businesses, and nonprofit organizations to address community needs through collective giving and service; and

WHEREAS, the Guilford County Board of Commissioners has a proud history of supporting the United Way and its community partnerships, with appropriations dating back to 1922, appointing of board members in 1977, and, on November 14, 1985, recognizing the County's Social Services Director for leadership of a successful United Way campaign while expressing appreciation to County department directors for their contributions; and

WHEREAS, today, United Way of Greater Greensboro and United Way of Greater High Point continue this legacy by supporting nonprofit agencies and community initiatives that address poverty, promote financial stability, strengthen families, and provide essential resources to Guilford County residents; and

WHEREAS, Guilford County and City employees demonstrate their commitment to public service each day, and participation in the annual United Way campaign provides another meaningful opportunity to serve their neighbors by supporting nonprofit organizations that can intervene early, address emerging needs, and help individuals and families achieve stability before more intensive County services become necessary; and

WHEREAS, the 2026-2027 Guilford County City-County Employee United Way Campaign has established a fundraising goal of $90,000, encouraging employees to participate through voluntary contributions and fundraising activities as part of the United Way's broader community fundraising efforts; and

WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners recognizes that strong partnerships between local government, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and community members are essential to building a healthier, more resilient Guilford County, and that every contribution, regardless of size, represents a shared commitment to helping our neighbors thrive;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Guilford County Board of Commissioners hereby proudly endorses the 2026-2027 Guilford County City-County Employee United Way Campaign, supports its goal of raising $90,000, and encourages all City and County employees to consider participating in this longstanding tradition of generosity, compassion, and community service.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board extends its sincere appreciation to the employees, campaign coordinators, volunteers, and United Way partners whose dedication strengthens our community and demonstrates that, together, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of Guilford County residents.

ADOPTED this  15th day of October, 2026.
