BACKGROUND

Background

Allocate a sum of $140,000 to One Step Further to support various services such as Adult Mediation Services, Juvenile Mediation Services, Guilford County Teen Court, Guilford County Juvenile Community Service-Restitution, the Community-Offender Resource Program, Family Factor, Junior/Senior Life Skills, and the Community Support & Nutrition Program. These funds will be utilized in the Fiscal Year 2024 budget to achieve the following objectives:

94% of clients will successfully complete the program components, including workplace survival, job readiness, and Family/Parenting Skills.

75% of clients who complete workplace survival/job readiness will secure employment within 60 days.

90% of clients who complete one or more service components will not engage in further offenses within 6 months after completing the program.

90% of CORP clients who complete the program evaluation will demonstrate a better understanding of how their behavior or offense caused conflicts with others, and they will be able to identify at least 2 effective communication and problem-solving techniques.

Additionally, award a sum of $250,000 to Cure Violence as part of the Gate City Coalition. One Step Further, Inc. has been managing the Gate City Coalition Program since January 2020, aligning its service delivery with similar Cure Violence initiatives nationwide to ensure adherence to the core components of the national model. One Step Further, Inc. will oversee all aspects of program operations, personnel management, financial transactions, program expenses, capital investments, equipment purchases, payroll, and human resources. Currently, Gate City Coalition Program 1 (funded by the City of Greensboro) serves the MLK, Jr. Corridor and Smith Homes. The expansion of Gate City Coalition Program 2, funded by Guilford County for 2022-23, will target neighborhoods in the Merritt Drive/Overland Heights Drive area and the Hickory Trails public housing community. Gate City Coalition Program 2 will involve activities such as Community Mobilization, Public Education, Relationship with Law Enforcement, and Outreach.
