RESOLUTION

Resolution

WHEREAS, the Guilford County Board of Commissioners pauses to honor and remember the life of Dorian Larmande Jackson, a beloved son, brother, student, leader, and promising young man whose life was tragically cut short on September 20, 2026, at the age of 21; and

WHEREAS, born on August 21, 2005, Dorian was a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, whose life, though brief, was marked by academic excellence, leadership, compassion, and a commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, Dorian was a proud graduate of James B. Dudley High School and a senior at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where he distinguished himself as a Cheatham-White Scholar pursuing a degree in marketing with a concentration in sales through the Willie A. Deese College of Business and Economics, demonstrating the promise of a bright future and the determination to achieve his aspirations; and

WHEREAS, as the oldest of eight children, Dorian held a special place within his family, serving as a source of love, pride, and inspiration. His life reflected the importance of family bonds, the responsibility of leadership, and the profound impact one individual can have on those who look to them for guidance, encouragement, and support; and

WHEREAS, Dorian embraced opportunities to lead, learn, and serve through his involvement in the North Carolina A&T State University Honors College, the Beta Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, the Student Government Association, and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund Program, leaving a legacy of scholarship, leadership, and engagement that reflected his commitment to personal growth and the advancement of others; and

WHEREAS, on September 20, 2026, while on a kayaking trip at Lake Norman, Dorian made the ultimate expression of love and selflessness when he attempted to save his sister from drowning, a courageous act that resulted in the tragic loss of his own life. His final moments serve as a solemn reminder of the extraordinary depths of familial love and the immeasurable courage that can emerge when another person's life is at stake; and

WHEREAS, the loss of a young life filled with so much promise leaves a profound void in the hearts of family, friends, classmates, fraternity brothers, mentors, and the broader Greensboro community. While words cannot ease the pain of such an unimaginable loss, Dorian's life reminds us that the measure of a person is not solely found in the number of years they live, but in the love they give, the lives they touch, and the values they leave behind; and

WHEREAS, in the wake of this tragedy, Dorian's legacy offers an opportunity for hope to emerge from heartbreak. May his selfless example inspire individuals, families, students, and community organizations to embrace volunteerism, extend a helping hand to those in need, and dedicate themselves to acts of kindness, compassion, mentorship, and service. In honoring Dorian, we are reminded that even in the face of loss, we can choose to build a more caring community by serving others and recognizing the value and dignity of every human life; and

WHEREAS, the Guilford County Board of Commissioners extends its deepest condolences to the Jackson family and all who mourn Dorian's passing, recognizing that the grief of losing someone so young is immeasurable and that the love, memories, and inspiration he leaves behind will continue to live in the hearts of those who knew him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Guilford County Board of Commissioners hereby honors the life and memory of Dorian Larmande Jackson, recognizing his academic achievements, leadership, devotion to family, and extraordinary act of courage and selflessness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board encourages the citizens of Guilford County to honor Dorian's legacy by committing themselves to lives of service, generosity, volunteerism, and compassion, transforming the sorrow of his passing into a renewed dedication to uplifting others and strengthening our community.

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dorian Larmande Jackson as a sincere expression of sympathy, respect, and gratitude for the enduring example of love and courage embodied in his life.

PRESENTED this the 5th day of November 2026.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I hereunto set my hand and cause the corporate seal of the County of Guilford to be affixed, this the 5th day of November 2026.
