BACKGROUND

Background

Guilford County competitively solicited bids on replacement of the existing HVAC units at the Guilford County Juvenile Detention Center located at 15 Lockheed Court in Greensboro as Event #555. On March 16, 2017 at 3:00 PM the three (3) bid responses received were publicly opened in the Guilford County Purchasing Department. 

 

1. Bar Construction Company

Base Bid $522,900, Alternate #1 $15,100, and MWBE $14,150

2. H.M. Kern Corporation

Base Bid $522,700, Alternate #1 $ 4,000, and MWBE $14,150 (Female Owned Electrical Business)

3. J. Wayne Poole

Base Bid $539,000, alternate #1 $11,500, and MWBE $0

 

Of the three (3) bids received the response from H. M. Kern Corporation is the lowest, responsive, responsible bidder. On March 20, 2017 they indicated that the prices submitted were correct and have no corrections to the bid.

H. M. Kern has worked for Guilford County in the past and has performed satisfactory. It is recommended that a contract be awarded to H. M. Kern for this project in the amount of:

Scope: Provide all labor, tools, materials and equipment to remove & replace existing air handling units, piping and related equipment at Juvenile Detention Center. Project includes four (4) rooftop HVAC units and a split system heat pump. Re-connect new equipment to the exisiting electronic direct digital controls that will interface with the existing building DDC system. Connect all new HVAC equipment to existing power circuits. Some ductwork fabrication and installation is necessary to install the new air handling units. There will also be some demolition and repair of parts of the buildings ceiling to install the new equipment. Alternate #1 is the mini split for the computer room.

 

All funding for this project is included in the FY 2016-17 Adopted Budget as part of the special facilities plan.
