BACKGROUND
Background
The Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services - Public Health Division has been awarded $145,143 from the Cone Health Foundation to support the Medication Assistance Program (MAP). Cone previously supported the MAP in FY2023 $207,347 and in FY2024 $145,143.These funds will be used to support a portion of a Pharmacy Technician’s salary and a portion of a pharmacist’s salary within the Medication Assistance Program (MAP).
MAP was established in Greensboro in 2000 and has significantly benefited uninsured Guilford County residents with chronic health conditions. MAP staff assist qualifying individuals in obtaining prescribed medications at no cost through patient assistance programs offered by drug manufacturers. The program has provided services to more than 1,500 unduplicated individuals and facilitates over $1 million in free medication annually for enrolled participants.
While the County offers this service, it is not the sole provider, and other entities may offer similar services within the community. This is not a mandated service but meets an identified community need, directly benefiting county residents.
