BACKGROUND

background

Guilford County Division of Public Health (GCDPH) received $9,586,065 from the North Carolina Division of Child and Family Well-Being to support safe, in-person instruction in kindergarten through grade 12.  The funding awarded to Public Health can be used to support K-12 COVID-19 testing program activities, provide COVID-19 support and response in schools, and provide and support other school health program activities that foster healthy students who are in school and ready to learn.  Public Health has used some of the funding to support COVID-19 mitigation and response activities in the schools and has worked with Guilford County Schools (GCS) staff to identify other eligible uses of the funds to support associated school programming.  As a result of that partnership, the County and GCS teams have identified $7,616,906 of expenses that may be funded from the state allocation to the County.  This agenda item requests approval of an Interlocal Agreement with GCS to fund the following services:

$249,845 towards training for Bullying Prevention and Trauma Informed Care - GCS has engaged in a contract with Hazelden Education Services for professional development for school teachers, staff, and leadership teams centered around Bullying Prevention and Trauma Informed Care.  The trainings took place for all 126 schools in the district and an estimated 10,000 staff will have access to the training.  Professional Development includes: supplies, materials and contracted services for staff trainings designed to help students and staff strengthen relationships between individuals and connections within the community.

$7,300,838 towards improved air circulation contracted services to improve ventilation in high density areas.  Improvements took place at the following sites: Andrews High, Cone Elementary, Ferndale Middle, Frazier Elementary, General Greene Elementary, Grimsley High,  Jefferson Elementary, Jesse Wharton Elementary, Johnson Street Global Studies, Joyner Elementary, Kernodle Middle School, Lindley Elementary, Mendenhall Middle, Monticello Brown Summit Elementary, Morehead Elementary, Northeast High, Northwest High, Pilot Elementary, Pleasant Garden Elementary, Rankin Elementary, Smith High, Southern Elementary, Southern High, Southwest Middle, Southwest High, Sternberger Elementary, Southeast High, Stokesdale Elementary, Sumner Elementary, Vandalia Elementary, Welborn Middle and Wiley Elementary.
