BACKGROUND
Background
Pursuant to NC General Statute 115C-426(f), “No contract for the purchase of a site shall be executed nor any funds expended therefor without the approval of the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) as to the amount to be spent for the site.” The Board of Education considered and approved this purchase on February 18, 2025, and is now requesting BOCC approval to purchase 4.67 acres of land for $300,000.
The properties for consideration under this agenda item are being purchased for construction of Katherine G Johnson Pre-K-8. The land will be purchased from local bond proceeds currently authorized and appropriated in connection with the existing Katherine G Johnson project ordinance approved. The total amount approved for that project ordinance is $59,336,545. Following commissioner approval, the Board of Education intends to exercise its option to purchase the site.
Guilford County Schools staff provided the following breakdown of the proposed purchase:
Beck Property
Parcel 233812 = 1.49 ac @ $64,239.83 / ac = $95,717.35
Parcel 233813 = 3.18 ac @ $64,239.83 / ac = $204,282.65
Total acreage and price for the 2 parcels = 4.67 ac for $300,000
The Board of Education is requesting approval to purchase approximately 4.67 acres along South Bunker Hill Road in Southwest Guilford County for a total acquisition price of $300,000 for property required for construction of the Katherine G Johnson Pre-K-8 School. The land will be purchased from local bond proceeds currently authorized and appropriated in connection with the existing Katherine G Johnson Pre-K-8 School project ordinance.
