RESOLUTION

Resolution

WHEREAS the North Carolina Geodetic Survey (NCGS) has been designated and funded by the North Carolina General Assembly to assist with the re-survey of ambiguous or uncertain county boundaries; and

WHEREAS on February 15, 2024, the Guilford County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution authorizing NCGS to survey, mark, and map the boundary between Forsyth and Guilford Counties; and

WHEREAS NCGS completed the county boundary survey and sent a report entitled “Forsyth-Guilford County Boundary Line Summary of Research Findings” to the board-appointed special commissioner which was reviewed by staff from both counties; and

WHEREAS the report states that NCGS used a 1960 boundary line survey conducted and recorded by Southern Mapping and Engineering (Plat Book 29, Page 85), a 1964 resolution amending the county boundary to run along Stigall Road, and modern survey equipment to locate seventeen of the original forty-six boundary markers; and

WHEREAS NCGS concluded that the county boundary is in “the same location or very close to the location set by the 1960 survey and 1964 resolution” and provided a plat delineating the resurveyed boundary; and

WHEREAS the County Managers of Forsyth and Guilford recommend that each County’s Board of Commissioners adopt the county boundary as depicted and described on the NCGS plat.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Guilford County Board of Commissioners that:

1.                     The county boundary as shown on the plat entitled Forsyth County and Guilford County Boundary Line dated July 16, 2024, is adopted as the exact boundary between Forsyth County and Guilford County; and

2.                     Pursuant to NC General Statutes 153A-18(a), “Upon ratification of the survey by the board of commissioners of each county, a map showing the surveyed boundary shall be recorded in the office of the register of deeds of each county in the manner provided by law for the recordation of maps or plats and in the Secretary of State's office”; and

3.                     This resolution shall be effective upon its adoption.

ADOPTED this the 21st day of November 2024.
