BACKGROUND
Background
The Guilford County Board of Education approved two project ordinance amendments for Kiser Middle and Claxton Elementary on July 23, 2024, to fund these projects through occupancy and close-out.
Kiser Middle
• The Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) approved a project ordinance for Kiser Middle on April 15, 2021 for $55,478,632, based on estimates included in the Guilford County Schools Master Facilities Plan issued in 2019.
• The BoCC approved a budget amendment for Kiser on January 5, 2023, based on guaranteed maximum price (GMP) contract through the construction phase of the project, bringing the total project ordinance to $81,667,391.
• This requested increase, totaling $2,349,332, would support off site road and utility improvements ($258,535), security measures ($453,955), and furniture, fixtures, equipment, and technology ($1,636,842). The revised ordinance amount would total $84,016,723.
Claxton Elementary
• The Board of County Commissioners approved a project ordinance Claxton Elementary on April 15, 2021 for $31,333,459, based on estimates included in the Guilford County Schools Master Facilities Plan issued in 2019.
• The BoCC approved a budget amendment for Claxton on January 5, 2023, based on guaranteed maximum price (GMP) contract through the construction phase of the project, bringing the total project ordinance to $50,377,090.
• The requested increase, totaling $888,098, would support installing a playground ($539,047), security measures ($125,000), and furniture, fixtures, equipment, and technology ($244,051). The revised ordinance amount would total $51,265,188.
These project amendments will be funded with bond proceeds from the voter approved $1.7 billion school bond referendum.

REQUESTED ACTION
Requested Action
Increase revenues and expenses for Kiser Middle from $81,667,391 to $84,016,723, an increase of $2,349,332; and increase revenues and expenses for Claxton Elementary from $50,377,090 to $51,265,188, an increase of $888,098. This is a total increase to the projects of $3,237,430 to be funded through bond proceeds.
